When picking gear, think about the whole setup and make sure the pieces work together and have comparable specifications. Say you buy a jacket rated at 40,000 mm waterproofing and pair it with pants rated at 10,000 mm. The pants will already be soaked through while the jacket is only getting started. So choose gear whose properties match each other.
